Updates from the painting table
And… yet another long gap there. I haven’t been very active online (here or social media) for a while - mainly work related excuses, changing job, trying to sort out moving house, etc etc.
Anyway…
I have been painting away in between these spread out posts though, and getting the odd game in here and there. A mix of Games Workshop stuff (mainly 40K and AoS) and historical (War of the Triple Alliance, some Romans and Gauls, some Wars of the Roses models, a few other things), so I should have plenty of stuff around to photograph and add here. Let’s see if I actually do that.
On the “most recent things” front: The new edition of 40K came out a couple of weeks ago (seems not long since the last one? Though I might be wrong and its the usual GW cycle…) and we managed to snag a copy of Leviathan. Kati has taken the Tyranids, and is making her way through c. 2000pts with the help of contrast paints. I’ve been working on the Space Marine side.
But what colour are the Marines, I hear you cry? Are they Blood Angels, to go with the old timey ones?
The answer to that would be …no
I ended up going with Mentor Legion. No real reason, to be honest - I had been intending to get a small force of Marines painted up for 3rd edition games, and had done a couple of test models as the Mentors, so when the new shiny stuff came out I ended up using that colour scheme.
Fairly easy to paint, and can be started from a few different undercoats if required. A coat of corax white on the white bits, soulblight grey shade, corax white again to tidy the plates then an edge highlight with a more white - white (I’m currently using a coat d’arms one). The green bits are caliban green, nuln oil wash, caliban green again, 50:50 caliban green and warp stone glow, then edging with warp stone glow. Job done!
I’ve currently got around 1000pts in new money to a table top standard (lacking the final highlights, transfers, etc), then another 1000pts built, so (assuming I don’t get too distracted and wander off) should be on course to get them sorted out pretty quickly.
Speaking of distractions…
These both aren’t going to cause any issues at all….
The Cadian is mainly as I wanted to paint up a new Cadian (which are absolutely lovely models) in an old style - those of you that have long memories might recognise the scheme is similar to the 2nd ed Cadians.
The Saurus is also a case of nice new models. I’ve always had a soft spot for the lizards since I started playing warhammer (with the 5th ed box) and they are a nice excuse to try to use GWs contrast paints. We’ll see how these projects both come along, but for now I’m *trying* to get the Mentors done.
