Enter the Mortal Realms
In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I'd subscribed to the Mortal Realms magazine. Not that I needed to, to be honest - I know how to play Age of Sigmar, I've got tons of Stormcasts sitting around unpainted, and my partner has a bunch of spooky ghosts (Nighthaunt).
But apparently I've got poor impulse control (who knew?), and I like the idea of models turning up every now and then through the door, in a possibly manageable fashion (painting wise).
It also gave me an opportunity to do YET ANOTHER Stormhost. To add to the two I have on the go already. Because that's not insane in any way, shape or form!
So, the first three models for the Anvils of the Heldenhammer are completed. I went for these for two reasons:
Firstly, it fits the narrative of the Soul Wars setting of AoS II (fighting against the Nighthaunt in Shyish). Not that I expect we'll play any games in the Soul Wars for a while, mind!
Secondly - skulls on Stormcasts look cool. The conversions are also very easy to do (I think this was in a White Dwarf or on the Warhammer Community site at some point). Carefully remove the central top segment of the halo thingy on the Stormcast's helmet, and dry fit a skull from the GW Skull Box (TM, clearly). A little more shaving with a knife or other such tool may be necessary, but fortunately the Sacrosanct Chamber helmets have a little anvil on them, which is pretty much the right size to remove, meaning there isn't much guesswork needed. Glue the skull in, and the conversion is finished - simple!
I won't review the Mortal Realms magazine itself - my subscription is behind other people's ones, so there are plenty of people looking at it online. I will say that I think it looks like a good entry point into the game/background, if you are interested in Stormcasts or Nighthaunt, in any case.
The ghosts are nearly finished as well - I need to finish the bases off on them, so this will probably happen over the weekend.
Oh, and I bought a bunch of Clan(s) Pestilens Skaven. Because impulse control....
Yes, I know I said earlier that we didn't need ratties for the Realmgate Wars, because my partner has a load of Skaven painted. However, I did realise there aren't large number of plaguey ratties in her army (1 unit of 20 Plague Monks, and 5 Plague Censer Bearers). Clan(s) Pestilens come up quite a bit as allies (sort of) for the forces of Nurgle in the early AoS Battleplans, so I figured it would be nice to do more of them. That's my excuse anyway.
They should be fairly quick with contrast paints. Hopefully!
